My Compositions

A Noise Behind the Bush“The morning air is so fresh!” I shouted as I inhaled the cool and crisp air.I was jogging with my best friend, Sarah, at the park near my house. We were chatting happily about our ambition while jogging and were so engrossed in the chat that we had forgotten about the time. It was already 10 am before we even realised it.Just when we were about to go, I heard a strange noise coming from behind the bush.“Did you heard that?” I asked Sarah.“Huh?” she shot me a quizzical look.“Well, never mind,” I replied, suddenly uncertain.“Woof! Woof!” the sound was unmistakable this time. We quickly walked to the bush and with trembling fingers, I pushed the bush apart. We were shocked at the sight that greeted us. A group of boys was throwing stones and sticks at a poor little puppy. I asked Sarah to look for the park ranger while I went to stop the boys.“Stop that!” I scolded them angrily, arms a kimbo.“Mind your own business, you busybody!” one of them sneered at me.The puppy’s white, snowy fur was stained with fresh blood gushing out from its wounds as the boys continued hitting it.“Now you stop it!” a loud and harsh voice thundered.I turned around and found Uncle James, the park ranger, and Sarah. The boys ran away quickly. Uncle James showered us with praises and we beamed from ear to ear.We walked home happily, thinking about the good deed we had done.Lift BreakdownIt was a bright and sunny day. I was walking home with my best friend, Ali. We live in the same HDB flat and we walk home together everyday. On the way, we met Mdm Lim, my neighbour, who had just return from the market. The three of us chat as we made our way to the lift. After we enter the lift, I press the button with the number eleven and the lift door closed. The lift was ascending smoothly when suddenly, the lights flickered and the fan slowed down and stopped whirring totally. There was a violent jerk before the lift came to a halt, plunging into total darkness. My heart pounded at amazing speed. I turn panicky and lose my composure. I pounded at the lift buttons and lift door fiercely. I was near hysteria. “Help! Help!” I screamed at the top of my voice. Mdm Lim wrung her hands and tugged at the hem of her blouse. Her vision grew blurred and things around her started to spin. Ali went to help her and fanned her with a book. The air grew warmer by minutes and the silence was eerie. I pressed my ears close to the door, hoping to hear the sounds of activities outside. Ali felt hot, with the back of his hands, he wiped the perspiration off his forehead. The back of his t-shirt was soaked and it clung to his back. I slouched at one corner, panting, gasping and sweating, I felt tired. I slowly closed my eyes. Suddenly, I heard some noise outside. A man shouted to us not to worried and they will get the lift to move. After what it seems like an eternity, the lift sprang to life and began to ascend.Mdm Lim clasped her hands together and muttered a prayer of thanks. Creases of worry vanished instantly and all tension in my muscle eased. I took one big step outside the lift, took a deep breath and help Mdm Lim home.Potted Plant“What should I do?” I thought worriedly, “Sigh! Where could I ever find an identical potted plant?”Just an hour ago, I had invited some of my friend to my house to play. My parents had gone out to attend an important meeting and my elder sister had gone shopping with her friends. After watching a television programme for a while, my friends and I decided to play the game, ‘Catch’. One of my friends, Tom, was selected to be the catcher. We stared playing and we were running when Tom knock into a potted plant near the window. It was my father’ favourite potted plant. After sending off my friends, I threw away the entire fragment and went out to all the shops that sell potted plants. However, they did not sell a plant identical to my father’s.Standing outside one of the shops, I felt hopeless. Then suddenly, I thought of something. “Yes! Uncle John’s shop! It sells all kind of plants”I dashed toward a shop with the sign the read “Uncle John’s Greenery Shop.” I walked into the shop, panting and gasping for air while trying to catch my breath. Then I walked towards the potted plants section and began my search. Finally, I found the potted plant I was looking for. I decided to look for Uncle John to ask him for the price. As I was walking away, from a distance, I saw a girl who had almost the same build as my sister take the potted plant. She then paid for it at the cashier.“Oh no!” I thought as I walked home hopelessly.I stepped into the house and found my sister placing a potted plant near the television. She saw me and said, “Lucy, please don’t tell dad whatever you saw. I placed his plotted plant near the window and when the wind blew, I think it caused the plant to drop to the floor. I went all the way to uncle John’s Shop and bought this.” she pointed at the potted plant.Looking at her, I let out a sigh of relief. I did not tell my sister what had actually happened and felt guilty. However, I hoped that my father would not find out what happened.A FightThe scorching hot sun shone brightly on the city. I was returning home from the National Library. I perspired so heavily that I looked like someone who had just emerged from the swimming pool.“This weather is going to kill me!” I muttered angrily.I was walking past a basketball court a stone’s throw away from my home when I heard shouts from it. A crowd of people gathered there. I ignored it and walk on. Just then, I heard a shout that sounded like my brother’s voice. I retraced my steps and elbowed my way through the crowd. I saw two teenagers glaring at each other and arguing with each other. One of them was unmistakably my elder brother, Elvin. Another one was perhaps Andy, my best friend, Annie’s, brother.Elvin was a hot-tempered boy who would challenge you to a fight if you dared to argue with him. Obviously, Andy had argued with him somehow.I learnt from one of the bystander that Elvin and Andy were playing happily with Andy’s basketball when they noticed a road cleaner sweeping the pavement. A mischievous thought flashed across Elvin’s mind as he asked Andy to throw the ball at the road cleaner. However, Andy was against the idea. “What a coward!” Elvin mocked at him.Clenching his fists and gritting his teeth, Andy glared at Elvin who was grinning smugly at him. Whistling nonchalantly, Elvin laughed at Andy’s angry expression. Seething with anger, Andy shoved Elvin roughly to the ground. He then punched the latter four times on his right cheek, leaving it red and swollen. The argument had now turned into a ferocious battle. I rushed forward to pull them away from each other.“Stop! Stop or I will call Mun down!” I threatened“Fine!” Elvin reply loudly.Laughing cruelly, Elvin then kicked Andy’s legs viciously and glared at his friend with hatred in his eyes before storming away.I ran after him just in case he got into any trouble again. I couldn't believe my eyes. What a day!My P4 Composition:An AccidentThe radiant rays of the morning sun filtered through the canopy of leaves. The day started with a quiet day in school. In the classroom, everyone was waiting eagerly for the bell… “Rrinng!” the long-waited recess bell had finally rung. We raced to the canteen like a swarm of bees. This was our favourite time of the day and we did not want to miss a single minute of it.The canteen was crowded with hungry people. We were like sardine packed in the container. Several difference aromas filled the air. I breathed in the smell of chicken rice, fried noodles and curry. The smell makes my mouthed water as I walked around the canteen trying to decide what to have for lunch. My stomach growled as I viewed the wide array of food available at the stalls. Hency, my best friend, and I decided to join the queue at the rice stall. Suddenly, we saw James, my classmate, rushing over to the noodle stall. He was famished as he had skipped breakfast this morning and was almost salivating at the sight of the delicious noodles. We are chatting happily when Tom and Tim raced past us. The two boys were dashing about in the canteen playing the game of ‘Catch’. They were yelling and screaming, creating a chaotic disturbance in the canteen. They were totally oblivious to their surrounding. I was really put off by their inconsiderate behavior.Mean while, James had bought a bowl of piping noodles and was looking for a seat. He quickened his pace when he found a seat. He did not notice the badly behaved boys racing towards him. I immediately gave a shout of warning. It was too late. They had crashed into James. A loud resounding crashed followed by a sudden loud pierce of scream left everyone gasping. There was silence for a moment as all turned their head to see what had happened. James was lying on the ground, flat on his head face. I quickly rushed to his aid. His arm was scalded by the hot noodles. It was red and painful and it was hurting agonizingly. However, he was trying to keep from crying. Hency and I helped him to his feet. I glared angrily at the two troublemakers as we headed slowly for the sick bay. Red-faced with shame, Tom and Tim followed us. Uncle Sam, the officer, took out a tube of antiseptic cream from the first aid box when he saw how badly scalded he was. James winced as Uncle Sam applied the cream on his wound before bandaging his arm. Tears were swelling up in his eyes. At this moment, Mr Lee, our principal, had just returned from a meeting. He was shocked to see Jame's swollen red arm. We narrated the incident to him. Fuming with anger, he stormed out of the office furiously and scolded the boys. They looked petrified. They walked into the office and muttered their apologies to James.I felt sorry for James. He would not have to gone through all this agony if the boys had been considerate. I hope they had learnt their lesson and would not race about in the canteen again.A recent one:A SnakeIt was Use-Your-Hands Day in my school today. My classmates and I were in the field sweeping up dead leaves and branches. Suddenly, an ear-piercing scream filled the air. It was my classmate, Judy, who likes to play pranks on her friends.“Help! There is a snake!” she screamed again, her voice full of horror. Horrified, I went over to where she was. The others thought that it was another prank and ignore her.Indeed, there was something green in colour slithering among the dead leaves and branches. It was about one metre long. “There is really a snake!” I shouted to the others. A group of pupils came to where we are standing while the rest continued with their work. Their face turned ashen and they stood rooted to the ground, after a while, they snapped out of their state of shocked. Some of them scuttled away and shrieked, two pupils remained composed and went to alert the operation manager, Mr Lim, who contacted the pest controller. The rest of them were curious but scared so they backed away and huddled together in one corner, craning their neck to look at the snake.Jack, a very mischievous boy tried to prod the snake with a branch. “Hey, don’t prod the snake!” a sensible pupil tried to warn him no to do so but their warning felt on deaf ears. For a moment, the snake did not move. Then, it started slithering towards Jack, its red tongue sticking out and hissing with hatred in its eyes. It wanted to attack Jack. He was panic-stricken. He tried to run but he couldn’t. His legs had turned into jelly. The snake bit him on his right foot and slither away. Blood drained from Jack’s face and he bit his lips to prevent himself from crying. His legs were quivering and he grew weaker and collapsed. One of the pupils went over to support him. Some ran away in fright, leaving him alone, while one pupil went to find the teachers-in-charge. Two teachers arrived at the scene in short time. One of them called the ambulance while another tried to reassure Jack that he would be fine. I went over to him and tried to comfort him too. I talked to him to keep him conscious till the paramedics arrived and the teachers told the other pupils to back away to give Jack more ventilation. The pest controllers arrived shortly after Mr Lim contacted them. The well-trained and well-equipped pest controllers managed to catch the snake after half an hour. I gave a sigh of relief and was grad that it had been caught.Meanwhile, Jack was bought to the hospital by the paramedics. Luckily, the snake wasn’t poisonous.I hope that Jack had learnt his lesson and I wished I would not see or encounter any snakes anymore as long as I live.
